McMeeken visit to enhance Sunday’s Dacia Cup

England international Mike McMeeken will be passing on tips to the next generation of budding rugby league players this weekend, when the Castleford Tigers player visits Newcastle Thunder’s Dacia Cup festival ahead of Sunday’s Betfred League 1 fixture against Hunslet Hawks (KO 3pm)

A major opportunity for junior teams from grassroots clubs, the Dacia Cup is one of Thunder’s key community initiatives and this year, will offer the junior players an opportunity to play on the main Kingston Park pitch.

Teams have been entered by clubs from across the North East and with all qualifying for tickets to enjoy the Thunder first team game at 3pm are set to enjoy an exciting day of sport.

And it is hoped that the visit of McMeeken, who was part of England’s heroic charge to last year’s Rugby League World Cup Final, will further enhance the enjoyment of the day by those taking part.

Community Development Officer Adam Houston said “It is an exciting opportunity that we have, thanks to the continuing support from Lookers Dacia.

“Last year’s event was a resounding success with some fantastic rugby on show and it was a real advert for the game in the North East.

“As a club, we are constantly striving to improve and this includes making this year’s event even bigger and better than last year.”
