NEWS – Sidney called up into Scotland train on squad

Scotland have named Newcastle Thunder’s Niall Sidney as part of their 35-man train on squad for this Autumn’s European Championship.

Doubling up as qualifiers for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, this autumn’s championship will see the top two nation’s progress to the tournament which will be hosted in England, making it a crucial competition for the Bravehearts to excel in.

A product of the Newcastle Thunder academy structure, Sidney rejoined the team on a two-year contract at the start of the 2018 season having spent a season playing at Under 19s level with City of Hull Academy.

Making four appearances in his first season back at Kingston Park Stadium, Sidney progressed well over the course of the year and put in a particularly eye-catching display in the final game of the season against West Wales Raiders.

Scoring eight tries in total last season, Sidney will aim to prove his credentials to head coaches Chris Chester and John Duffy and secure a place in the final squad for the competition, which kicks off on October 27th.
