SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT – Siddal Challenge Cup

Academy graduates Jed Charlton and Ollie Gowing have come into Newcastle Thunder’s 21-man squad for Saturday’s Coral Challenge Cup fourth round tie against Siddal, as Simon Finnigan’s side aim to make the fifth round for the first time since 2009.

To do so, they will have to overcome one of the best amateur sides in the country and one that has recent history against Newcastle, having ended their campaign in the third-round back in 2016.

Having booked their passage into Saturday’s match by virtue of a dogged 12-16 win over Keighley Cougars, Thunder have named a strong side for this weekend with plenty of experience included in the squad.

Including the incoming duo there are six players who have come through the club’s academy structures including Alex Donaghy, the U18s academy man who made his competitive first-team debut in last weekend’s fixture.

Taking place at Siddal’s Chevinedge ground, kick off on Saturday is 2pm and entry to the game will be just £2.50.
