Thunder gear up for Cougars’ visit

Betfred League 1 action returns to Kingston Park Stadium this Sunday and a big crowd is expected, as Thunder take on Keighley Cougars at home (KO 3pm)

Facing the same opposition as in the first round of the 1895 Cup, Simon Finnigan’s side will be targeting a repeat result from that game, where Thunder took a handsome 38-12 win

With this year’s Moody Cup taking place in the morning, Sunday’s attendance is already approaching the 1,000 mark, with further efforts to attract North East sports fans set to push that bar even higher.

Sunday’s game will see an enhanced fan experience in place, with the North East terrace set to host a wider range of refreshment options for fans to enjoy and a range of rugby skills games set to be in place around the pitches on which the junior games will be played.

With fewer than 100 seats remaining available for Sunday’s game, fans who wish to watch the game from Kingston Park’s East stand are encouraged to book in advance by clicking here and save themselves £3 on match-day prices.

With healthy crowds at all of their home games to date this season, general manager Jordan Robinson is looking forward to seeing a good number of local youngsters staying on to enjoy the first team fixture.

“Our big grassroots game has given us a big boost in the crowd since Thunder moved to Kingston Park and it will be great to see teams all the way up to under 14s playing on Sunday and then staying on for Thunder’s game.

“The support of Moody Logistics is greatly appreciated in allowing us to put this day on and we’re looking forward to welcoming our second four figure crowd of the season.

“Hopefully it will create a superb atmosphere and add more people into the Thunder family on a regular basis.”
