Newcastle Thunder U16’s start 2019 with a win

Newcastle Thunder U16’s showed they potential from the very start as Eddie Mawson scored after diving onto the end of a kick through, this would be the first of six Thunder tries this afternoon.

City of Hull didn’t take long to reply, scoring five minutes later through fast passing to the left hand channel which put Alex Pollard in at the corner.

With the game closely tied from the majority of the first half it was Thunder who eventually came out on top as they scored two tries before the half time break this time through Josh McDermott and Ciaran Walker.

With Tyler Hepple kicking two from two and Elliot Shaw also adding extra’s, Thunder went into the tunnel with a comfortable lead.

The second half started with great intensity which reflected well on both sides pre-season training. Aiden Simpson and Noel Branthwaite were on the back end of impressive attacking sets for Thunder as they both scored to extend Thunder’s lead further.

City of Hull weren’t going down without a fight as they scored two fantastic tries one of which was an outstanding solo from the young half back. A perfectly weighted chip kick landed back into his hands, after stepping the full back he dived over the line. But it Thunder who got the final say in the match as Lee Jay Robinson dodged between defenders and went over in the corner.

These two sides will meet again on the 2nd of February at Bishop Burton with kick off at 12:30
