Blair wings into new Thunder deal

Ali Blair will continue to provide a potent wing threat for Newcastle Thunder in 2018 after the 27-year-old agreed to a new contract with the club.

Embarking on a fourth season with his home-town club, Blair has established himself as a dependable option in the backline for Thunder, after switching codes from Percy Park RFC for the 2015 season.

A player with 43 appearances to his name for the club, Blair’s precision in attack has steadily grown along with his understanding of the 13 man code, with the 2017 season seeing him cross for 13 tries and bring his career total up to 23 to date.

Beginning his rugby league career in the centres, his second and third seasons with Thunder saw him primarily operate on the wing, where he was able to make effective use his pace to arc around defences or outstrip defenders while chasing down kicks through.

Speaking about Blair’s retention, Thunder head coach Jason Payne said: “I’m delighted Ali has re-signed with us, he had a great year last year scoring plenty of tries along the way.

“It’s great that another local player has agreed to stay and hopefully having many of the same faces around will bring some continuity, especially with the numbers of new players that have been brought in.

“I’m sure Ali will have a big year and I’m looking forward to seeing him pick up where he left off.”
