Finnigan focusing on playoff quest

Simon Finnigan praised his side’s ability to dog out a win following Sunday’s 22-32 Betfred League 1 victory over and is now keenly anticipating the start of the promotion playoff matches, with Doncaster first up this Sunday.

Thunder fought back after going six points behind midway through the second half, with Finnigan pleased to secure the points.

Speaking post-match, he said: “Any win at Keighley is a good win. It’s a hard place to win at, it always has been and we knew that they had been the last month and that they were always going to be good in the last home game of the season. We expected their best and I thought they played very well.”

With Oldham securing second place in the final Betfred League 1 table, Thunder begin their playoff campaign against Doncaster on September 15th and Finnigan is expecting another tough match against two evenly matched sides.

He added: “It’ll be a tough game, they are on a good roll with Rangi Chase playing well for them, but they were playing well before he joined them as well. We had a real battle with them at Featherstone where we won in the last second and they beat us at home.

“We’re going to have to be good to beat them, but its playoffs so they’ll step up, we’ll step up and it’s exciting and I can’t wait for it to start.”
