Finnigan signs on for 2020 On Field August 9, 2019 Simon Finnigan will retain the Newcastle Thunder reins in 2020 after the club and head coach have agreed on a new contract to keep him at Kingston Park Stadium. Arriving in the North East at the end of March, Finnigan has demonstrated his superb coaching abilities in his first head coach role, having previously been a successful assistant coach at Leigh Centurions and Toronto Wolfpack. Winning his first match at the helm against Oldham RLFC, Thunder have taken a total of 11 victories from his 13 games in charge including impressive away wins at Doncaster and Hunslet and are still firmly in the mix to challenge for promotion into the Betfred Championship in 2020. Speaking to Thunder TV, Finnigan said: “Extending was mentioned a few weeks ago and obviously I’m pleased to do that, I didn’t want to come just for a year. “It is a really well run club from top to bottom so it was a very easy decision. The initial excitement from when I first came in has grown and grown and I’m still as excited, if not more and it is a really good place to be at.” Hear more from the head coach by clicking on the video above.
