SIGNING – Walker comes in on season-long loan

Newcastle Thunder will welcome talented young forward Brad Walker to Tyneside for the 2020 Betfred League 1 season, as the Cumbrian loose-forward joins the club on a season long loan.

The 21-year-old has joined Wakefield Trinity from Widnes Vikings after being granted a release from his contract with the Championship side but will spend next season developing his game as part of the Thunder setup.

Making his Super League debut in 2016 in a 28-38 win over Castleford Tigers, Walker has made nine appearances in the top tier so far in his career and has played a total of 40 games for the Vikings who he joined at the age of 16.

With a wealth of experience from the top two divisions in English rugby league, Walker has also played 12 League 1 matches whilst on loan at North Wales Crusaders in 2018.

A ball-playing loose-forward, who lists Sean O’Loughlin as a player whom we looks up to and wishes to emulate, Walker boasts plenty of skill with the ball in hand and will be out to make an impression during 2020.

Thunder head coach Simon Finnigan said: “I am pleased to have Brad join us on loan he is someone who will certainly add to our style of play he will fit in with our group very well.

“I would also like to thank Wakefield for making this loan possible I’m sure it will benefit both clubs.“
