Thunder announce squad for Hemel Stags clash

Newcastle Thunder continue their preparations for the new Betfred League 1 season this Saturday evening, with a pre-season friendly against Hemel Stags at Kingston Park Stadium (KO 6pm)

Having had their first hit out of the year last week against Castleford Tigers, Thunder will be looking to build on the encouraging signs they showed against one of their League 1 fellows this weekend.

Boasting a number of familiar faces, former Thunder players Sonny Esslemont, Chris Heil, Ricky Hough and Louis Sherriff could be among the Stags line up on Saturday in what will be Thunder’s final game before they kick off the new season away to West Wales Raiders on February 18. Jason Payne has announced a 21 man squad that boasts 10 local players including Dan Coates, Jed Charlton and Sam Stephenson from Thunder’s U19 academy.
