Bob Beswick will retain the Newcastle Thunder captaincy for 2021, as the club again appoint the experienced Ireland international to the role.

Arriving on Tyneside in 2020, Beswick took on captaincy duties for his inaugural season as Thunder looked to make the most of his knowledge, acquired over the course of more than 400 professional games.

Having played both Super League and Championship rugby league and with a reputation as a leader both on and off the field, his assuredness in pressure situations will prove a valuable asset as Thunder embark on their first season outside of League 1 in 11 years.

Speaking on retaining the role, Beswick said: “I’m very honoured to get the chance to captain Newcastle again this year. I’m excited to work alongside Eamon and Dennis again as we step up to the Championship.

We’ve brought some quality players in with super league and NRL experience and if we continue to work hard I’m confident we can compete against some very tough opposition this year.

“To walk out in front of the fans again at Kingston Park is something I’m sure everyone is looking forward to doing.”
