Club stalwart Rhys Clarke will embark on his tenth season as a Newcastle Thunder player in 2021 after agreeing to a new deal to remain at Kingston Park Stadium.

The 29-year-old forward has made over 140 appearances for the club across two stints on Tyneside in a career that started back in 2009.

Adding in his appearances for York City Knights and Whitehaven, Clarke has played in over 200 matches and brings a wealth of knowledge as one of the most experienced players at the club.

Part of a core of local talent and a big character within the squad, Clarke is confident of Thunder enjoying a successful season in 2021 and putting aside the frustrations of missing most of the match minutes able to be played in 2020 with a hand injury

He said: “I was gutted to miss most of what Thunder played this year, being injured at the start and then the season being cancelled.

“We were on a good run and we’re building on a strong 2019 when Covid hit, so we’ll be hoping to continue that when things get underway.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to training and meeting the new lads and coaches and seeing the others that are still here.

Clarke joins Bob Beswick, Liam McAvoy, Matty Wright and Lewis Young as announced members of the 2021 Thunder squad.
