SIGNING – Thunder strengthen with Taulapapa deal General November 9, 2018 Newcastle Thunder’s recruitment for the 2019 Betfred League 1 season has netted another high-quality international signing, with Misi Taulapapa joining the club from Featherstone Rovers. A Samoan international, Taulapapa brings a wealth of experience to Kingston Park, having played 33 times in the NRL with Cronulla Sharks and made over 230 appearances in the Betfred Championship with Sheffield Eagles and Rovers. Adept across the backline, he primarily operates at centre or on the wing and will be expected to be another strong on-field general for the Thunder. After starting out in rugby union Taulapapa switched codes in 2004, representing Marist Richmond Brothers in the Bartercard Cup before being picked up by the New Zealand Warriors for 2006. After three seasons with the Sharks, he moved to the UK and was originally set to be a Gateshead Thunder player, before the deal ultimately fell through during a difficult time for the club. He instead enjoyed five seasons at Sheffield before moving to Featherstone in 2016. Now set to play a key role in Thunder’s quest for promotion, it is a project Taulapapa is excited to be involved in. Taulapapa joins Mo Agoro, Jack Aldous, Jared Blanke, Keal Carlile, Jed Charlton, Rhys Clarke, Dan Coates, Liam Finn, Conor Fitzsimmons, Kieran Hudson, Sam Luckley, Remy Marginet, Liam McAvoy, Aaron Ollett, Liam Richmond, Alex Rowe, Niall Sidney, Evan Simons, David Weetman and Lewis Young in Thunder’s 2019 squad. Season tickets for the new campaign to watch these exciting players in action over 11 Betfred League 1 matches are on sale now, with prices starting from just £100 for adults.
