After the tournament it was announced that Dan had not only made the World 13 but also won Universities player of the tournament.

Thunder’s head coach Jason Payne who has worked with Turland thoughout his time at Northumbria University had this to say about the achievement.

‘’Everyone at the club is immensely proud of Dan and his achievements at the Student RL World Cup. To be named in the world 13 is a great achievement but to be named Student Rugby League World Cup Player of the Tournament is quite simply exceptional. He is a credit to Northumbria University and Newcastle Thunder.’’

‘’He has worked very hard to get to this point and I’m so proud that it has paid off for him, we are now excited to get him back training with us and hopefully he will be high on confidence and finish the season well with Thunder’’
