VACANCY – Community Development Officer

The Newcastle Thunder Community Programme is expanding and is on the look out for a new Community Development Officer for the Tees Valley and South area of the region. The purpose of the role is to grow the sport of Rugby League in the region through driving increased participation of players, coaches, volunteers and match officials alongside developing existing and supporting the creation of new community clubs.

Key Responsibilities/Deliverables:

  • Actively increase the number of juniors regularly participating in rugby league through delivering rugby league activities in schools and community clubs
  • Promote and develop effective relationships between community clubs and their local schools to enhance the transition of participants to clubs.
  • Development officer for Durham Tigers, Yarm Wolves, Hartlepool Hurricanes and Catterick Crusaders. Assisting all clubs to ensure they exceed minimum standards (safeguarding, welfare, qualifications) and increase registrations by 5% per year
  • To lead on the Development of Woman’s and Girls Rugby League across the North East.
  • To support key Newcastle Thunder initiatives to increase attendances.
  • Create and grow social media interactions
  • Contribute to actively identifying and sourcing new funding opportunities for Newcastle Rugby Foundation

KPI’s:

  • Number of participants and coaches engaging in a variety of programmes against targets.
  • Increased engagement of schools and clubs with the Newcastle Rugby Foundation.
  • Feedback on quality of experience from stakeholders

Essential:

  • Enthusiasm and passion for developing rugby and individuals
  • UKCC Level 2 Award in Coaching Rugby League (or equivalent)
  • Experience of coaching a wide variety of social backgrounds, ages and ability levels.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working in a dynamic team environment
  • Strong promotional skills and the ability to manage own workload
  • Ability to work as part of a team and meet organisational demands
  • Ability to create and maintain strong working links and relationships
  • Ability to work to a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to make decisions and use own initiative
  • Self-motivated, organised, enthusiastic and honest personal attributes
  • Current UK Driving License
  • Access to a car

Salary: £18k to £20k dependent on experience.
