19 Man squad named for Hunslet

Newcastle Thunder have named the 19 man squad from which they will draw their match day 17, for Sunday’s Kingstone Press League 1 trip to Hunslet (KO 15:00)

Interim head coach Jason Payne has again named a largely settled side, with the 19 man roster showing just on change from that announced in the build up to last weekend’s 68-20 win over Coventry Bears.

The change comes in the back, with Ali Blair returning after recovering from the shoulder knock he picked up against Doncaster, with Tyler Craig the man to drop out.

Blair is currently locked in a battle for personal glory as the club’s top try scorer with Lewis Young and after the fullback extended his lead with a try in last weekend’s win, club and fans will be hoping their ability to cross the whitewash is to the fore this weekend.

Thunder are locked in a battle with York City Knights for fourth place in the pre-split table, with the reward of an extra Super 8 home game and the chance to host the Toronto Wolfpack the prize for the club that comes out on top.

The Tynesiders travel knowing a win over Hunslet and a York loss to Workington will give them that privilege, whilst they can also still prevail if both they and York win their respective games, by bettering the Knights points total by +17.
