19 man squad named for York

Newcastle Thunder have named a predominantly settled squad for this weekend’s trip to face York City Knights at Bootham Crescent on Sunday (KO 3pm)

Thunder head to the Minster city involved in a three way tussle over the fifth and final Kingstone Press League 1 playoff spot, with Jason Payne keeping faith with the pool of players from which the team that took a 24-28 over Doncaster last weekend was drawn.

In order to seal their place in the push for promotion to the Kingstone Press Championship, Thunder must win against York on Sunday and hope Doncaster fall to defeat away to Toronto Wolfpack and the Keighley Cougars do not win away to Barrow.

A victory for the Cougars and Thunder would see the two teams level on points, but the Yorkshire side qualify by virtue of a superior points difference.
