SIGNING – Craig commits to Thunder for 2020

Tyler Craig has agreed to a new deal with Newcastle Thunder that will see the talented winger remain at Kingston Park Stadium for 2020.

Making nine appearances for the club in 2019, Craig played an important role in Thunder’s best season in over a decade as he provided a dependable option for Simon Finnigan and Denis Betts in the back-line.

The former York City Knights man has made 34 appearances for Thunder since joining back in 2017 and operated mainly on the wing during 2019, bringing valuable experience to a youthful lineup.

Having agreed to a new contract with Thunder, Craig is hopeful of achieving more on Tyneside and is excited by the prospects for the team in the new season.

Speaking on his decision to re-sign, Craig said: “The ambition of the club is big, they are wanting to be pushing towards Super League in the next few years and I want to be part of that.

“The team last year was really competitive and you had to be patient to get your chance, but Simon had belief to put me in for the playoffs and I’m looking forward to being involved again next season.”

Thunder head coach Simon Finnigan said: “Tyler is a player with very good skills with the ball and he is a good defender. I am pleased that he has signed on for another season.

“Every game he played last season he was good and with the club playing a squad game, having competition across the back field is something that we want, and he will push for those starting positions.

He was excellent off the field for us and trained really well and that is a valuable thing for the group.

Tyler joins Bob Beswick, Jed Charlton, Rhys Clarke, Alex Clegg, Sean Croston, Ashley Gibson, Kieran Gill, Ollie Gowing, Kieran Hudson, Adam Lawton, Sam Luckley, Rory Nettleton, Quentin Laulu Togaga’e, Colton Roche, Evan Simons, Brad Walker, Tyler Walton, David Weetman, Mikey Wood and Lewis Young in the ranks for 2020.
