Newcastle Thunder secured a BIG signing for the 2020 season by bringing Adam Lawton to the North East from Super League grand finalists Salford Red Devils.

Standing at 6’ 7” the towering forward broke onto the rugby league scene in 2013 as a 20-year-old product of the Widnes Vikings’ junior system and impressed, scoring nine tries in 12 appearances in all competitions for Widnes.

After an impressive first season Lawton then opted to take a sabbatical in Australia, during which time he played at Queensland Cup level with Redcliffe Dolphins before returning to the UK to play at amateur level with Widnes West Bank.

Rediscovering his love for the game, he was snapped up by Salford Red Devils for their outstanding 2019 campaign and featured in matches against Catalan, Wakefield, Warrington and Wigan.

Lawton also spent time on loan in the Betfred Championship with Rochdale and Swinton, adding to the experience he gained of that division at Workington Town back in 2013.

A player who uses his impressive physical attributes to bring size and power to his pack, he is also a skilful individual who will provide an additional threat with the ball in hand in Newcastle’s forward ranks.
