Academy graduate Kieran Hudson will remain part of Thunder’s senior squad in 2021, with the talented young prospect earning a new contract at Kingston Park Stadium
Hudson has been making waves in rugby league since first encountering the sport as a pupil at Whitburn Church of England Academy and playing at local community club Jarrow Vikings.
The grandson of Leeds Rhinos legend John Holmes, Hudson made his first team debut back in 2018 against Hemel Stags and signed senior terms for the first time in 2019.
An injury sustained in that year’s pre-season friendly against Wakefield Trinity saw him miss most of the year and the opportunity to add to his first team appearances, but he bounced back with positive performances in the Under 19s as he made the switch from the backs to the forwards.
Marking himself out with aggressive attack and defense and translating his potential well despite his relative inexperience, the former Sunderland AFC academy goalkeeper re-signed for 2020 and impressed in outings against Leeds Rhinos & Whitehaven in pre-season, as well as the Coral Challenge Cup win over Siddal ARLFC.
Whilst still young and with lots to learn, Hudson is a talent that director of rugby Denis Betts is keen to nurture and make into a Thunder stalwart for many years to come.
